Fast sailing in my 1987 Precision 16 sailing dinghy at Cherry Creek Reservoir near Denver, Colorado. The Precision 16 is a lightweight Stephen Seaton-designed un-ballasted centerboard sailing dinghy with a planing hull manufactured from 1982 until the mid 90s. It was superseded in 1995 by the smaller Jim Taylor-designed Precision 15 (P-15CB and P-15K). "Columbia Yachts has developed a lifting drive system for the Columbia Carbon 32. The system features a 3-blade fixed prop connected to a Yanma diesel inboard engine. The drive system retracts completely into the hull and is completely water tight and isolated from the interior of the boat. The advantage of this system is that it reduces drag making the boat faster."
