The Maxi 95 was designed to accommodate a family safely and comfortably and also to sail well, the design realised all three goals. Production started in 1972 and continued into the 1980s with incremental improvements occurring each year. Manufacturing was based on the west coast of Sweden and around Lake Vnern which lies 100 km north east from the city of Gothenburg (additional descriptions can be found in our translation of the original Owners Manual). As fibreglass was a new material for boat construction, the moldings were made much thicker (and stronger) than todays productions. Osmosis is rather unknown to most yachts from that era when extra catalyst was added for extra strength. This means that the 20 year old Maxi boats are still structurally strong and ready to continue. Engines and other accessories may wear out and need replacement but the hulls continue to serve well.

Dags att vara 100 % ärlig. Här är exakt varför vi seglade över Atlanten med bara genuan. Vår prio nummer ett när vi seglar är säkerhet. Att bara behöva hantera ett segel när något oväntat händer gör allt enklare och tryggare. Vi slipper vända båten i 5 meter höga vågor för att ta ner storen eller gå upp mot vinden i sjö för att hissa den igen. På nätterna seglar vi konservativt, så att den som vilar faktiskt får sova och den som är vaken kan hantera allt själv från sittbrunnen. Vi har haft mer än tillräckligt med vind, vi har faktiskt seglat cirka 90 % av tiden med revad genua. Ju mer vind, desto mindre segel vill vi ha uppe. Att hissa storseglet blev helt enkelt aldrig aktuellt för oss. Och när det rullade och vi hade lite mindre vind så valde vi också att ha revad genua för att plana till genuan så att den inte slår och skapar förslitningsskador. The River's and the Glens were in close contact during the June 5th Club Racing out of Strangford Lough Yacht Club. We the breeze up ahead of a rain squall the River were flying down wind on the second lap as they cut their way through the Glen fleet on their way to the top mark The post war Glen class is one of Alfred Mylne classic designs, it is always great sight to see them gliding by you on as you race on Strangford lough. We are extremely luck to have over a dozen of them racing regularly out of Strangford Lough Yacht club (SLYC) along with the pre war Mylne Rivers with the majestic lines.
