This squall blew through The Bight at Norman Island in the British Virgin Islands just as boats.com editorial director John Burnham and crew were approaching a mooring. Eparpillées entre les côtes italiennes et la Corse, les sept îles de Toscane, Elbe, Capraia, Pianosa, Giglio, Giannutri, Gorgone et Montecristo, sont des perles tombées du collier d’Aphrodite dans la mer Tyrrhénienne. Ce don des dieux a été reconnu par l’Unesco au titre de réserve de la biosphère en 2003. Au départ de la marina de Macinaggio située au nord de Bastia, cette croisière en catamaran dans l’archipel toscan, vous mènera sur l’île de Capraia. Amoureux de nature intacte et de fonds marins, cette île vous ravira. Ex-colonie pénitentiaire durant une centaine d’années, elle n’est ouverte au tourisme que depuis 1986. Son origine volcanique lui confère des côtes majestueuses, peuplées d’oiseaux de mer et de faucons. Au-delà du port et du village côtier s’étend un incroyable maquis témoignant de la richesse de la flore originelle de cette région de la Méditerranée. A une trentaine de milles au sud de Capraia, l’île d’Elbe, la plus grande des îles de Toscane, offre un rivage de plages de rêve : sable doré, galets blancs, rochers de granite et mer cristalline au programme. De Marciana à Fetovaia, en passant par Portoferraio, la capitale, et Porto Azzuro, vous écumerez les côtes de cette oasis verte.
