“What would you do if you could freely choose?” I took this picture of myself roughly 15 years ago. It was the day that I turned my life upside down. It was the moment I realized: staying in my 'old life' would hurt more than risking everything for the life I actually wanted. I have not regretted this decision. I surely have struggled on this path, but I’m still out here—still learning, still sailing, still choosing the unknown. Because this is the life I freely choose. This isn’t a how-to. The aft cabin is one of the biggest spaces on Vela, but we still see so much potential to optimize! Here’s what we’re planning: 🛠️ Extra Storage: We’re building cabinets on each side of the bed and adding shelves inside the hanging lockers—because you can never have too much storage for clothes and gear on a boat. 💡 Desk Transformation: That “make-up table” (seriously, who uses it?) is getting a makeover! We’re turning it into a retractable desk with shelves above—perfect for working or planning our next adventures. 🌬️ Ventilating Cupboard Doors: On our nice-to-have list are ventilating doors for better airflow and to prevent condensation—practical and pretty. 💧 Watermaker Plans: We’re considering fitting the membranes for our watermaker under the bed, making good use of otherwise empty space. Timing is everything when the left hand side of the beat is favoured. Black flag was up which created a bigger sag in the centre of the line. Timing the run to the pin allowed us to force the trailing boats into a down speed tack, a loose cover to windward and off to the top mark in a tight race. The team at bottom up boats hope you are enjoying the short clips from the 2025 racing season.
