Il vento continua a soffiare violento e i temporali a susseguirsi uno dopo l’altro. L’instabilità meteorologica pare continuare tutta la settimana. Da lunedì si riaprirà una finestra buona per muoverci verso nord. Diciamo che qui si sta bene. Elettricità senza limiti, Starlink dà il meglio di sè e possiamo concentrarci sul lavoro in modo efficace. Periodo di budget, pianificazione strategica, nuove idee. La giornata scorre cadenzata dalle call. La sera Barbara e Massimiliano si affacciano dal pontile (anche loro remote worker che vivono in barca) e ci chiedono se vogliamo fare un aperitivo. Perché no? Andiamo nel bar della marina e un aperitivo diventa subito cena. E che cena! Racconti di vita, di progetti, di lavoro. Siamo colleghi, quindi scambi di grande valore :) Domani che si fa? J109 Going to Red blasting downwind at over 12 knots with the wind gusting to 35 knots. We the bow wave breaking back behind the spreaders it was all hands to the back of the bus as we blasted across a tight reach. The 35 knot puff which hit us just before this laid us flat for 20 second and also most dumped out bow man over the side. There was quite a bit of yelling and screaming required to get the messages from the front of the boat to the back and visa versa. With the kite finally making it to the top of the mast and a couple of the crew hitting the rail we set of to catch the race leader who was not brave enough to fly the kite as the breeze built as the low pressure cell moved over northern Ireland and and built the breeze to over 35 knots. The J109 is a a great ocean going yacht which is stable and responsive even in the biggest of breezes. ► Las Palmas, almost an unavoidable stopover on the Atlantic route from Europe, welcomed thousands of sailors during the month of November, when the north-easterly trade winds begin to set in. These crews included a total of 1,300 sailors flying the ARC colors (ARC and ARC +) aboard 253 sailboats. During our visits to the pontoons, we got a measure of the Starlink revolution: only one entrant was equipped last year, compared with 80% of the fleet today... The quality of the connections offered by this satellite operator makes it possible to efficiently follow weather developments, keep in touch those ashore and even work as if at the office! For the first time since we’ve been following ocean-going crews, Vincent, aboard Outremer 51 Piment Rouge, will be sharing his transatlantic passage with us via his videos, which we’ll be relaying. Another special feature of this 2023 edition will be the large number of diesel cans strapped to the guardwires: in a context of very light winds, unusual for the season, the engines (authorized with a penalty for the Multihull category) are likely to be much in demand aboard many of the multihulls. After two weeks of seminars, meetings and safety inspections, the atmosphere on the docks was becoming truly electric during the last three days running up to the start. Studying the weather, stocking up on fresh supplies, washing fruit and vegetables - everyone realized that there was an ocean to cross... Some crew members are more Zen than others: the oldest sailor in the ARC, Joff Hutchinson, 89, declared: “I’ve been sailing for 82 years and I’ve always wanted to cross the Atlantic. Now that my sons have retired, there’s no better time”.
