Today we explore one of the most unique places we've discovered while sailing in Thailand. We start the morning anchored off Bang Bao on Koh Kood, heading ashore in search of breakfast at a beautiful beachfront resort. Unfortunately… no luck. So we raise the sails and head around the island looking for our next adventure. What we find is incredible. On the far side of the island we discover a traditional Thai village built entirely over the water, stretching out along a long pier. Above the village sits a giant golden Buddha statue watching over the bay and protecting the fishermen and their families below. We climb the hill to visit the Buddha, explore the floating village, and enjoy some delicious (and incredibly cheap) local food while taking in the views. Thailand never stops surprising us. We woke up to an incredibly calm morning anchored in a beautiful bay at Koh Mak, Thailand. With the water like glass and the jungle surrounding us, it was the perfect start to the day. After taking the dinghy ashore, Chloe and I went exploring through the jungle and stumbled upon something we definitely weren’t expecting — a hidden “Love Garden” filled with unusual life-size sculptures tucked away among the trees. Chloe’s reaction was priceless! After that surprising discovery, we found a small beachside resort serving breakfast right on the sand… and it only cost $3 per person. Back on the boat, we hoisted the sails and made our way south to Koh Kood, one of the most beautiful islands in Thailand. The bay there was absolutely stunning — crystal clear water, quiet beaches, and lush jungle everywhere. We dropped anchor, headed ashore, and discovered yet another gorgeous beach and resort tucked away on the island. Today’s adventure starts with a 5 hour road trip from Pattaya down to Koh Chang, where we jump aboard a Lagoon 400 catamaran for a beautiful sail through the islands of eastern Thailand. After a quick tour of the boat, we untie the lines and head out for an easy 10 mile sail south to Koh Mak. This part of Thailand has some of the most underrated cruising grounds in Southeast Asia — warm water, steady wind, and quiet tropical islands everywhere. Our destination is one of my favorite spots in the region… The Blue Pearl Bar on Koh Mak, an amazing little beach bar that’s perfect for watching the sunset after a great day on the water. It’s our final day of this catamaran sailing charter in St. Martin… and we’re going out the right way. We explore Sint Maarten starting on the Dutch side — from planes screaming overhead at Maho Beach to cruising the surprisingly affordable liveaboard scene on Simpson Bay Lagoon. Living aboard here can be way cheaper than you might expect, and the vibe is lively, social, and easygoing. Then we clear out and sail around to the French side of the island… and the mood changes fast. Marigot Bay still shows heavy scars from Hurricane Irma in 2017 — with derelict boats, visible damage, and a much quieter feel overall. After dropping anchor, we quickly realize this isn’t where we want to stay — so we pull it back up and sail over to Grand Case, where the atmosphere, food, and anchorage are way more our speed. The boat drawing is complete — and we have a winner. The drawing was done automatically, but the reserve was not met. As promised, that meant the winner would receive the partial cash equivalent of the funds raised rather than the boat itself. Right after the drawing, I called the winner to let him know he’d won $53,000 cash. With his permission, I recorded that conversation and included it in this video so you can hear exactly how it went down. During the call, we also discussed an option I wanted to offer him: since the raffle raised about half the boat’s value, I agreed to lower the price of the boat accordingly. If he chooses to purchase it, his out-of-pocket cost would be roughly half of what the boat would normally sell for. He’s currently talking it over with his wife. Island hopping around Taha’a in French Polynesia turned into one of our wildest days yet. Chloe was dancing on deck in her bikini as we sailed through crystal-clear lagoons, stopped to tour a local rum distillery, and then headed out to the barrier reef for snorkeling. Things escalated quickly when we started feeding sharks right off the back of the boat and watched them swarm just feet away from us. After four unforgettable nights in Bora Bora, it was finally time to set sail. Saying goodbye to one of the most beautiful places on earth is never easy, but the adventure wasn’t over yet. We enjoyed some great sailing at first, until the wind came right on the nose and reminded us that this is still real ocean sailing. We pushed on to Taha’a, stopped for lunch at a floating restaurant, then moved the boat out to the reef. The snorkeling at the Coral Garden was incredible, followed by an amazing dinner at a truly next-level resort. We sail to the west side of Bora Bora and pick up a mooring in one of the most beautiful spots in the lagoon, surrounded by shallow coral heads and crystal-clear water. After dropping the hook, we jump in the dinghy and head out to the reef where we snorkel with dozens of blacktip reef sharks — swimming right alongside us and coming unbelievably close. It’s an incredible experience and way less intimidating than you might think. From there, we enjoy an epic downwind sail across the lagoon to the Bora Bora Yacht Club, where the day ends with great food, sunset views, and a traditional Polynesian dance show. We sail from one of the most beautiful bays we have ever spent the night in on the southeast side of Bora Bora and make our way around the island through the crystal-clear lagoon.
