In this episode, we are introduced to Shell Money—massive, hand-carved rings made from giant fossilized clam shells. Historically used for everything from land disputes to "buying a wife," these artifacts are a window into a complex social history. But as our friend Rocky shows us, value here isn't just in the past; it's in the craftsmanship of today—from intricate wood carvings to a functional teapot made entirely from a coconut shell. Our time in this village quickly turned from a visit into a deep community connection. We were treated to a rare "floating concert" on our boat, joined the local congregation for a powerful Sabbath service featuring 50 visiting singers, and participated in a massive traditional feast where we learned the humbling local custom of "Guest First." To end the day, we followed the locals into the jungle, paddling up a winding creek to find a secret freshwater swimming hole hidden beneath the rainforest canopy.
