Ask Moitessier & Cousteau An Aegean Sailing Safari #Porto Heli #Sifnos #Elefonisos @Sailing Adventures with Grandad "For a long time, I believed that life was about searching....but I have come to understand that life is about being". Bernard Moitessier In this episode I took off with two great friends. Jere and Javi and we left Porto Heli, not knowing where we were going. When the wind filled in it took us down the coast of the Penepolese to an amazing village and harbor of Yarakas where we had the best home made spinach pie and I crashed my drone that survived. Then on to amazing Elefonisos, just beautiful in October with almost no people. Then off to Sifnos running into an early fall wind coming from the north that forced us into Milos while Vayu flooded because my cabin hatch was open. Recovering in Milos and a beautiful sail to Sifnos followed by an absolutely peaceful day in "paradise". Over the next few days we completed our 274 mile journey and ended with Vayu in her winter birth at Basimakopoulos Shipyard. Just an amazing 10 days of cruising with great camaraderie and excellent sailing. Its been two years of sailing since I left Mallorca and I cant help feeling that there is something especially spiritual and very deep going on. Its not about traveling or racing. Its not possible to ignore the deeper significance of being at sea and sailing. My question was "What is it about sailing?" I decided to check in with Jaques Cousteau and Bernard Moitissier. Cousteau the most famous oceanographer and Moitissier one of the worlds most famous solo sailors. And in their words I found the answer which I share with you in this episode as I share the pleasure of a varied and exciitng 274 nautical mile voyage from Porto Heli to Elefonisos and on to Sifnos with a couple of other stops on the way. This channel of Sailing Adventures with Grandad, started after our long Covid battle. After the mentioned shakedown, I departed Palma de Mallorca going East around Sicily, across the Ionian, transiting the Corinth Canal and then solo sailed the Cyclades. Discovering how lonely I felt sailing on my own so I now sail with frinds or family. SAILING ADVENTURES WITH GRANDAD are my amateur creations of my travels and experiences on Vayu my 44 ft X-yacht Vayu. The people I travel with, the places we go, the times we have and my reflections on living this adventure. Thanks for allowing this amateur storyteller the opportunity to share these little stories that require an imense effort. Your appreciation means a lot to me. A lifetime sailor, practicing yogi, father of 4, grandad of 6, amateur chef, and thankful man. I live between Palma de Mallorca, Vayu my sailboat and Los Cabos Mexico. "The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever" Jacques Cousteau Thanks for coming along. Sailing like life? its all in the journey! Thank you; Michael
