We Returned to the Remote Alaska Property We Helped Rescue

We’re back in Port Protection, Alaska, at a place many of you will recognize. Last winter, we spent months helping our friend Liz after storms, fallen trees and serious foundation problems threatened her remote beachside home. It became one of the biggest stories of our winter in Port Protection. Now it’s fall, Liz has enjoyed another summer in her little piece of paradise, and Alaskan Gypsy is back in town. There’s still work to do. Three large trees near the cabin have begun leaning toward the shoreline, and Liz remembers when they stood straight. Rather than wait to see what Southeast Alaska’s winter storms, heavy snow and wind might do, Scott is taking them down while we’re here to help. Of course, nothing is quite straightforward at a remote cabin on the edge of the ocean. These trees are going directly into the tide line, which means getting them down is only the beginning. Next up: we’ll be sitting down with Liz inside the cabin to hear her side of the story and look back at everything that has happened since we first arrived in Port Protection. And beach logging. We’ll attempt to recover the logs from the shoreline and move them by skiff to a neighbor who can use them for firewood.
