This is most of what you can do with Wayland at this point. It's still very early in development. If you have an Intel video card, you may be able to run it outside of X. You might be able to get some Qt (KDE) apps to run, but I haven't gotten that library fork to build. The GTK fork currently won't build against upstream libxkbcommon.
