Dubrovnik is filled with impressive monuments, structures and attractions that must be seen to be believed! Here are our Top 5 monuments to visit the next time you're in Dubrovnik! 1. Pile Gate - this well-fortified gate is the entrance to Dubrovnik Old Town and historically was built to keep Dubrovnik safe during the multiple invasions that occurred throughout history. Walk along the drawbridge and through the gate to access the Old Town of Dubrovnik. 2. Dubrovnik City Walls - these impressive City Walls wrap the entire way around Dubrovnik Old Town and extend just over 2 kilometers in length. The walls reach as high as 6 meters on the land-facing side and between 2 and 3 meters on the sea-facing side. 3. Dubrovnik Cathedral - legend has it that the Romanesque styled Cathedral was built between the 12th and 14th centuries, however, crumbled to dust in an earthquake of 1667. It has had many renovations and restructures since, and the current building was most recently restored in 1981. 4. Lovrijenac Fortress - This impressive fortress sits detached and adjacent to the Old Town of Dubrovnik and was built on a 37-meter high rock face overlooking the sea, fortress Lovrijenac is one of the most impressive locations in Dubrovnik. The fortress protected the city from both land and sea attacks and was of prime importance to the city's defense. 5. St. Ignatius Church - this stunning church sits in the middle of the Old Town and dates back to the 18th century.
