Spinnaker Pole Shortening - Trimming Pole Ends for Easier Storage and Safer Downwind Sailing Rig

#spinnaker #amel #spinnakerpole #sailboatmaintenance #sailboatDIY Spinnaker poles are aluminium spars that help support and control various headsails on sailboats when sailing downwind. On our boat - an Amel Super Maramu - they support the genoa and ballooner/spinnaker in a "goose wing' configuration using four poles and 11 lines! However, we often found that the poles dipped into the water in heavy swell when deployed and, when stored on deck, suck out way beyond the guard rails catching the loose headsail sheets when sailing. In short, they were at best a nuisance, and at worst downright dangerous. Later models of Amels such as the Amel Super Maramu 2000's and 54's had shorter poles and simple brackets on the stanchion posts to safely store them out of harms way when not in use. So we decided to copy that design and this maintenance blog shows exactly how we did that.
