Sea Ray 370 Waterline Cleaning - Before and After

We were asked to clean up the waterline and the aft components of a beautiful Sea Ray 370. Unfortunately recent high temperatures have caused a "red tide", turning the seawater orange-brown and reducing underwater visibility to only 2 inches. No underwater footage was possible this day, and the entire cleaning had to be done by feel alone. It was almost two hours of scrubbing, as the sea flotsam stuck to the gelcoat and even took root as mossy growth, and there was heavy mussel and barnacle growth underneath on the trimtabs, rudders, propellers, shafts, and struts. Some of the clusters of mussels we pulled off were over 3 feet in diameter! We often see this type of waterline buildup when gelcoat ends up submerged or partially submerged. Most of the production boats have their waterlines designed for showroom conditions, not for real life use where the boat is loaded with gear or even fuel and water. In these cases we generally recommend that boat owners raise the waterline of their bottom paint during their next haulout. Filmed on a GoPro Hero 9 in Vancouver Canada
