Santa Ana Winds Salty Sailors on Raptor II
Santa Ana Winds were blowing strong on January 7, 2025. Devastation hit Los Angeles California as wildfires swept across the region. We were out on the water in Long Beach Harbor aboard Raptor II, a 2024 J112E, owned and skippered by Heinz Butner. The race today was a 6.1 nautical mile competition in the Salty Sailors Pursuit Race. The Santa Ana Winds were predicted to blow 40-60 MPH across Southern California. Contrary to the prediction, the wind on the water was not as strong as predicted, so many boats decided not to race. The wind finally shifted to the north with gusts increasing to 20 knots by the end of the race. Raptor II passed Loose Change (J40 boat) with only minutes remaining in the race. It was a wild finish to the competition. Our thoughts go out to all the people affected by this natural disaster. ?? FOLLOW US ON SOCIALS ? Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/sailingwithscott/ ?
