MAKANI takes to the water for the first time. In this sea trial, we bring the new Smart Cat S280 down the Miami River — cruising through the drawbridges — before putting her through her first sailing test. The wind was light, but MAKANI performed beautifully. We ran the main sail and the jib, and everything functioned exactly as it should. As the test carried into the evening, dusk settled over Key Biscayne and the scenery turned stunning — the perfect backdrop for a boat's first sail. Along the way, we walked the owner through operating the S280 hands-on, from managing the sails to handling her on the water. After the test, MAKANI was brought into No Name Harbor in Key Biscayne, where she'll wait for the perfect weather window. From there, the journey continues: a sail to the Bahamas, and then on to her final destination in Turks and Caicos. This is just the beginning of MAKANI's story.
