Sailing Kemah to New Orleans - Part 5
Part 5 of the sail / cruise with the kids from Houston to New Orleans is up and live. In this episode we show the trip from Houma to the Mississippi River. We run into some mechanical issues that were not major but required us to delay out departure and take a cab to a store for the bolts needed to patch her up. We go through a nice storm with thunder, lightning and lots of rain and into the our first elevation lock in the Harvey Canal where we rose about 3 feet or so. Oh, and we did that run at night. See the French Quarter from the River at night as we traverse the Mighty Mississippi River and head under the beautifully lit twin span bridges downtown. With this one we are in the home stretch, this was our longest trip yet mileage and time wise. With about 7 bridges and 2 locks and one flood control point, there were lots of potentially for delay. Join us on our journey as we continue to rebuild, refit and prepare our Formosa 51 Sailboat for our continued cruising journey. We have always loved the Formosa, bought one (on a bit of a whim) late in 2014, moved aboard this one right away and started to do our refit while living board. We are avid fans of Cruising Outpost and Good Ole Boat (Good Old Boat) magazines and love the ideas we get from them. -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Please watch: "How to repair a wooden mast, boom, spar or Bulkhead (Step by Step) " https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Nxr-yxUjvQ -~-~~-~~~-~~-~-
