Sailing Festival In Greece 2024 | Explore Saronic Islands ? @svkalos
Welcome to Sailing k????, in this episode we travel to Greece and sail the Saronic Islands. We are on a liveaboard catamaran for a week and travel from island to island while visiting ancient ruins that are more than 5,000 years old, swim in the Aegean Sea and explore some caves that once housed some of the earliest known humans on the planet. Greece's Saronic Islands (or Argo-Saronic Islands), sit just off the mainland and Peloponnese peninsula in the Aegean's Saronic Gulf. Known for their beaches and ancient ruins, they're popular day-trip and weekend destinations. Closest to Athens is the largest island, Salamis (or Salamína), whose Ambelakia port dates to the 4th century B.C. On Aegina is the well-preserved Temple of Aphaia, built in 500 B.C. Athens is the capital of Greece. It was also at the heart of Ancient Greece, a powerful civilization and empire. The city is still dominated by 5th-century BC landmarks, including the Acropolis, a hilltop citadel topped with ancient buildings like the colonnaded Parthenon temple. The Acropolis Museum, along with the National Archaeological Museum, preserves sculptures, vases, jewelry and more from Ancient Greece. Aegina is one of the Saronic Islands of Greece in the Saronic Gulf, 27 km from Athens. Tradition derives the name from Aegina, the mother of the mythological hero Aeacus, who was born on the island and became its king. The Temple of Aphaia is an Ancient Greek temple located within a sanctuary complex dedicated to the goddess Aphaia on the island of Aegina, which lies in the Saronic Gulf. Formerly known as the Temple of Jupiter Panhellenius, the Doric temple is now recognized as having been dedicated to the mother-goddess Aphaia. It stands on a c. 160 m peak on the eastern side of the island approximately 13 km east by road from the main port. Agistri, also Angistri or Agkistri, is a small populated island and municipality in the Saronic Gulf in the Islands regional unit, Greece. Poros is a small Greek island-pair in the southern part of the Saronic Gulf, about 58 km south of the port of Piraeus and separated from the Peloponnese by a 200 m wide sea channel, with the town of Galatas on the mainland across the strait. Its surface area is about 31 square kilometer's and it has 3,261 inhabitants. Dokos is a small Greek island of the Argo-Saronic Gulf, adjacent to Hydra, and separated from the Peloponnese by a narrow strait called, on some maps, "the Hydra Gulf." It is part of the municipality of Ýdra in Islands regional unit and reported a population of 18 persons at the 2011 census. The islet of Moni is located southwest side of Aegina, opposite Perdika village. Moni is a great place for sailing and excursions, as it boasts great turquoise waters and lush nature. The island is not inhabited, as there is no drinkable water. The only inhabitants are some animals and, in particular, some deer, kri-kri goats brought from Crete, squirrels, peacocks and falcons. The deer and the peacocks have grown especially accustomed to human presence, and they may even come close to you on the beach! Moni was under the jurisdiction of the Greek Touring Club for 30 years. Thus, in 1962, it was decided that it should be enriched to become a game-breeding natural park. Hydra, or Ydra or Idra, and in antiquity Hydrea, is one of the Saronic Islands of Greece, located in the Aegean Sea between the Myrtoan Sea and the Argolic Gulf. It is separated from the Peloponnese by a narrow strip of water. 00:00 Intro 00:42 Athens - Acropolis 2:16 Aegina - Sanctuary of Aphaia 05:00 Agistri South 06:27 Comedy Night & Otter Ball 07:00 Poros 09:06 Dokos 12:10 Belly Flop Contest 12:35 Mermaid Entry 13:55 Boom Hang 16:27 Flying Bowline 18:03 Dive Swim Chug 19:05 Hydra 20:30 Moni Island 21:08 Back to Athens 21:30 Outro #catamaransailing https://www.theoceancruisers.com/ #oceancruiserspodcast #apparentwinds #cruisersacademy #svkalos #santorini #oiasantorini #santorinigreece #athens #poros #sailingadventures #liveaboards #greeksailing #athens #aegeansea #sailingkalos #greekislands #saronicislands #oceancruisingboats #greeksailing
