The protest lodged by the Race Committee and Ichi Ban against Celestial (which resulted in a time penalty for Celestial and a time redress for Ichi Ban) involved a number of factors that warrant broader discussion. So to get some clarifications on protest and jury processes for ocean races and to discuss the general role of VHF, Personal Locator Beacons (PLBs) and flares, we asked Michael Spies to give us some insights and offer his thoughts on some wider learnings from this particular event.
