Removing and Replacing Rotted Stringers - Part 1
This week we finally tackle the recently discovered rotted stringers under the galley settee. In this video, we explore what is really going on under the floor/sole. We also come up with a strawman plan on how to go about replacing the rotted stringers. This video includes diagrams of the structure, video of it and my contemplation on how to resolve the issue. After removing the rotted stringers, we determine the right wood to use, cut new ones, round them for fiberglass, and start the process of cutitng the old fiberglass and preparing for the new install. Join us in this little adventure and don't forget to tune in next week as we either continue or finish the work. Join us on our journey as we continue to rebuild, refit and prepare our Formosa 51 Sailboat for our continued cruising journey. We have always loved the Formosa, bought one (on a bit of a whim) late in 2014, moved aboard this one right away and started to do our refit while living board. We are avid fans of Cruising Outpost and Good Ole Boat (Good Old Boat) magazines and love the ideas we get from them.
