Emirates Team New Zealand's AC75 Taihoro rolled out at Wynyard Point in Auckland for the first time ahead of AC38, and the recon teams were on the ground to capture the detail. Training was cancelled after a tropical front moved in, but not before the boat was observed on its high-cradle. Chief Designer Dan Bernasconi confirmed the team have "taken weight out of the foils" — and the most visible sign is a significant reduction in the forward-protruding fairing previously nicknamed the 'foil spike' in Barcelona. Also spotted: Pitot tubes on the foil bulb for the first time, measuring precise speed through the water rather than over ground — critical for flight control and performance data in tidal conditions. With teams mandated to reuse foil arms from AC37, the differences between campaigns will be in the detail. The recon teams are watching closely.
