Port Blair to Langkawi | Part -2|Engine trouble, rough weather & exhaustion | S03E29

1,313 Views· 24/05/25

In the second part of our passage from Port Blair to Langkawi, things got even more intense. With just three of us onboard SV Reeva, battling 25–30 knot winds, 3–4 meter swells, and a surprise engine failure mid-passage, this leg tested every ounce of seamanship and resilience we’ve built. As weather conditions worsened, our engine refused to start—fuel wasn’t reaching the engine. With the boat rolling 30–40 degrees in high seas, we had to replace fuel filters, clean the mini de-bug system, and troubleshoot under brutal conditions. Meanwhile, Kaeya kept watch, managing sails and tracking wind speeds like a pro. With no real-time weather updates (our Iridium Go was inactive due to a SIM issue), we were relying on 72-hour-old forecasts, adjusting course toward the Similan Islands in Thailand. After three grueling days, we reached the Similan Islands, picked up a mooring, and finally got some much-needed rest. From engine repairs at sea to full moon sailing, this passage was a masterclass in liveaboard life, seamanship, and teamwork.
