No wind, no engine, no worries?! | S2 Ep. 24
Hello there, welcome to Sailing NV, We're a sailing family pursuing an unconventional dream of sailing around the world in our recently converted ex Vendée Globe Open 66 race boat. This week we find ourselves in Flores, in Indonesia, an island of rugged mountains, volcanic peaks, beautiful beaches, and home to the infamous Komodo dragon! In last week's episode we sailed, or rather drifted here across the Banda Sea from the spice island of Banda Niera. In this episode we plan to sail west along the northern coast to 17 islands National Park? But first we had a quick trip to the nearest big town Maumere to restock our cupboards. In Indonesia so far, we've got used to going to a local market to get fresh stuff like fruit and veg and then hunting down the biggest supermarket we can find for everything else, which in this case had these amazing car trolleys. With our cupboard restocked, it was time to set sails for the 17 Islands National Park, a marine park, known for a vibrant underwater world, turquoise waters, powdery white beaches and dramatic cliffs, all of which we couldn't wait to explore! But as the sun went down, so did the wind speed. As it turns out there's not a lot of wind in this area of Indonesia around September time, which is a less than ideal situation for us with out current gearbox issues, as every time we run the engine, we get water in our gearbox oil which is already giving us difficulties going in reverse gear Those of you that are following our channel will know we've got gearbox issues and are getting water in the gearbox oil every time we run the engine. Despite changing the oil after every use, we're finding it more and more difficult to go in reverse gear and so are reluctant to use the engine? a less than ideal situation for this windless Indonesian coastline. However today when we turned the engine on we had a different problem as the engine was struggling in a way which sounded like a fuel issue. As you can see here from the fuel filter Timo removed, there were lots of bits of plastic in there which were the cause of the problem, but unfortunately there were more problems to come... 00:00 - Intro 01:00 - Provisioning 02:38 - Sailing to 17 Islands NP 03:14 - Wind dies 04:49 - More engine problems 08:43 - Getting moving once again 09:01 - Dolphins! 10:22 - Arriving at 17 Islands NP 11:45 - Anchoring in the dark ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you enjoyed this video please consider supporting us on Patreon https://www.patreon.com/SailingNV or with a one-off donation via https://ko-fi.com/sailingnv or paypal https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/sailingnv
