** NOW SOLD ** Typhoon is a 2001 1D35. Designed by Nelson & Marek and built by Carroll Marine in the USA, Typhoon was the very last of 48 1D35's built - hence the sail number 35048. Considered somewhat unconventional for their time with a huge mainsail, tiny jib, no backstay, hydraulic forestay adjustment and a displacement of 2,971kg, the 1D35 inspired a whole new audience and a whole new tuning challenge. Designed for power, speed and seaworthiness, these yachts were soon challenging some much bigger rivals with target speeds of 7knots plus upwind and the ability to surf at 18knots plus off the breeze. Simple design features such as the highly ratioed traveller system allow the helmsman to steer and play the traveller, ensuring that as much weight as possible is kept on the rail. Her sail wardrobe is extensive and includes a Norths flat top main (2019), Norths J1 (2019), Ian Short J2 and J3 both new in 2023 along with Norths J4, S1, S2 and S3 spinnakers and an array of delivery sails. There is a Raymarine GPS/plotter, New B&G Triton wind, speed and depth instruments and all new Dyneema running rigging was fitted in 2022. Typhoon is in current CAT 7 safety.
