Now, just before her world debut at the Monaco Yacht Show, we can finally show you the completed HEED. But this is not simply another yacht walkthrough. David Seal looks at the thinking behind HEED's exterior design, from her subtle profile and metallic paintwork to the challenge of keeping her below 500 GT while creating a forward-facing owner's stateroom on the upper deck. Two pools, hidden anchor gear, opening terraces and fold-down platforms are all part of a design where aesthetics had to work hand in hand with engineering. Inside, Achille Salvagni's interior brings together sweeping curves, natural materials and full-height windows. The owner's stateroom has direct access to the foredeck, where there is a private pool and sunbathing area, while four further guest staterooms are located below. An elevator connects the decks and completes a remarkable layout designed around owners, guests and crew. But the yacht herself is only part of this story. David spends time with HEED's crew to understand what goes into operating a yacht at this level. From independently operated rudders and a ballast system to batteries capable of powering the hotel load for six hours without the generators running, there is a great deal happening behind the scenes that an owner may never see. And that leads to what David considers one of the most important aspects of HEED: the structure behind her.
