The Lagoon 420 is often described as the perfect cruising catamaran; it combines great live aboard accommodations with thoroughly modern sailing attributes. Powered by two economical 40 HP Yanmar engines she motors effortlessly with a surprisingly low fuel consumption. When it comes to sailing the Lagoon 420 comes into its own, the sheets and control lines have all been arranged to work on two winches—one electric—and through a brace of line stoppers conveniently positioned next to the helm. The helm is raised to starboard so the port jib sheet has been routed across the cabin top, through two fixed deck blocks and then through the line stopper to the winch. This is an ingenious system that allows a single watch stander to handle all lines and sheets right from the helm. The electric winch is a boon for easy sail trimming. On the day that the accompanying video was taken, we achieved speeds of 6 knots overground with only 13 knots of true wind! Set up for cruising Stevee Jean is a three cabin owners version, with the complete port hull being the owners quarters. The starboard hull incorporates two double cabins both with ensuites.
