How to Hoist a Sail

Before we can go sailing, we need to hoist our sails. That means pulling the sails up so they can fill with wind. First, we find the right halyard (the line or wire that pulls up the sail). Then we attach it, check it runs clear to the top of the mast, and pull until the sail is all the way up.
