It was sucking a lot of air too and would go off at strange times. So i suspect the non-return valve wasn't working because the water that was collecting in the pipe was then draining back down and causing it to trigger again. All in all, it wasn't a good sign so I took it apart to take a look at what was going on. Access was tricky as it was bolted onto the bulkhead and the motor actually covered the bolts. When it was opened EVERYTHING seemed to be broken - the diaphragm, the inlet valve, the outlet valve and even the screw holes were worn out so just about everything had to be replaced from the service pack. But while we were there we also took the opportunity to clean the bilge, check the float switch and the copper bonding wire too, so a lot of maintenance got ticked off that day!
