Watch the Whiskey Plank livestream Saturday starting at 2 p.m. ET: https://youtu.be/AomcpAjIxWA Of the final three planks, the sheer strake (plank) goes on first. Made of locust, it can sustain the knocks and bumps of dock approaches or rafting (two boats tying up to one another) and defines the shape of the cedar strakes below it. It would be the first material to hit a piling or dock most of the time, so it needs to be strong. In preparation for the sheer plank installation, we need to remove material from the deckbeams that we left long to save time as we fit them, and meanwhile, Andrew from Restoring Rosalind continued to fight the good fight with his steam generators. The time ticks toward our goal to have the whiskey plank on by tomorrow, Saturday, May 28. We honor Patricia (Pat) Atkin at the end of this episode, an artist and teacher who also carried the legacy of the Atkin Family's collection of boatbuilding plans for many years and, in her generosity of spirit, hosted the hopes and dreams of many builders and owners with her guidance. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve started as an amateur boat builder building a 38' wooden boat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project will continue well past launch, when he and the crew will travel and learn to cruise aboard the boat that they've built. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you are interested in supporting/helping here are a few ways: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/how-to-help Acorn to Arabella's wishlist: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/wishlistpriority TotalBoat Referral: Need something TotalBoat sells?
