Episode 43 Big Boat Series 2024 Spin Trimmer POV

In this episode of The Rogue Rigger I show you my point of view as the Spinnaker Trimmer on the Farr 400 Astra for this years Rolex Big Boat Series out of the St. Francis Yacht Club. This was a pretty windy race that started off the west side of Treasure Island, then upwind to Blackaller Buoy (By Fort Point), back down wind to a navigation buoy off of Treasure Island, back upwind under the Golden Gate Bridge to Point Diablo, then back down wind to Blossom Rock (between Alcatraz Island, Pier 39 and Treasure Island), then back upwind to a buoy a half mile off of Crissy Field and finally a short downwind to the finish in front of the St. Francis Yacht Club. This was the sixth race of the week and the second race of the day for us. It was blowing 20-22 with gusts in the upper 20's. Unfortunately for us our boat has a "Bad" ORC handicap rating and we were put in the wrong fleet and did not stand a chance to correct out on top. We had a blast pushing ourselves and the boat to the limit all week. This boat rewards hard work! We were regularly seeing high teens in boat speed with some decent chunks of low twenties. Love it!! This was the boats first actual regatta as Team ASTRA. We all came a away super stoked and can't wait get back out on the race course battling for places!
