Ep26 | Our First Impressions of Spain in the Pandemic: Gijón, waves & dogs on the loose

November 21-23, 2020 In this episode, we check out Gijón and the most popular beach in the area, both for dogs and for surfers. The boys tried out their surfing skills on a fin-less board and we lose Aksel in the water. When we arrived in Spain, we felt like we were finally back on track in our sailing plans. We were in "the south", as we Norwegians so lovingly have labled any country from Spain and southward in Europe - basically anywhere where one could depend on a warm climate for a vacation tan?And, there were palm trees everywhere! A definite sign of the warmer latitudes we were soo looking forward to! I, Liv, really enjoyed the charming old city with it's cobblestone streets and beautiful architecture. We definitely noticed the first signs of Christmas decoration and couldn't believe it had already gotten that late in the year! But, we had arrived "the south", so we were ok with it now. ? The next day, the boys wanted to try out the boogie-board at the beach we visited - one of the most well-known beaches in the area - Playa de San Lorenzo?a hotspot for surfers - and our 4-legged furry friends. We brought our boogie board, but it had no FIN, so it was very difficult to steer & get control of it, but that doesn't stop our boys? As WE were being mesmerized by the active dogs, Aksel seemed to have drifted off far away from us! Now, my Mommy-heart was pumping hard and I commanded Eivind to jump out in the water to find him! Join us for the next episode where we take a long day sail from Gijon to Viveiro in the northwest of Spain. We spend a day here exploring the midieval old town with it's cobblestoned streets and Gothic architecture, walk along the golden beach and take a dingy safari to check out a nearby cave before we sail further west to A Coruna.
