With a massive Indian influence in the major cities to Kava drinking locals in the outer islands. It is an experience that we will never forget. In this adventure we entertain ourselves in the big city of Suva then set sail to Kandavu known for it’s incredible diving on astrolobe reef and Kava. The diving was indeed spectacular. From Manta Rays to Dog Tooth Tuna. Kandavu has it all including Kava! As we sail around the world we always do research before setting arriving in a new place. We google. We read blogs of other cruisers. This time we came across the logs of the sailing vessel Delos (the first pioneers of sailing youtube channels). Sure enough, they came to Kandavu and sailed right into Kavala Bay. It's no coincidence that the word 'Kava' is inside 'Kavala Bay'. As soon as we stepped foot on land we were invited that night to a Kava ceremony. Kava is a big deal in Fiji as well as well as many other nations in the South Pacific especially Vanuatu. Kava is a muddy drink made by grinding up Kava root. It's a sedative, anesthetic and euphoriant. Basically it's effects are much like alcohol but perhaps not as strong. Finally after much shenanigans in Kandavu, we were off to the Yasawas, the sunny side of Fiji where the beautiful beaches, sunsets and scenery did not disappoint!
