Bali 5.4 Dave Score: https://forms.office.com/r/MXTeMMcmp6 Today we are going to 1. Review its specifications, pricing and layout against three similar new vessels 2. Do a full tour asking, "What would Sylvia say?" 3. Naval Gaze at an innovation and/or adjustment that might make life aboard easier 4. Have a look at the used market for 3-5 year old comparables 5. And finally give it a "Dave Score" and compare the result with all our previously reviewed yachts. All this fun will be sandwiched between a wine pairing from the same region as the guest yacht and a look at a favorite sample of art from the same region. Yachts, waves, ideas, wine and art…what a civilized way to spend 30 minutes, so let's get going… Starting high above Vancouver Canada, we fly East across North America and across the Atlantic to France's Western shores and the home of last time's yacht at the Lagoon yards in Bordeaux. From here we fly further East across France to the Mediterranean coast and the yards of Catanna and their Bali brand. Finally we hop just a little inland to the Languedoc- Roussillon wine region and the vinyards of this week's wine pairing… Le Bijou de Sophie Valrose Le Bijou de Sophie Valrose is named after a lady who worked in the Languedoc vineyards during the late 19th century and became something of a local hero. At the time, it was largely women who worked in the vineyards; pruning and harvesting the vines. Sadly these women were often mistreated, over-worked and under-paid. Sophie fought for women's rights and drastically improved working conditions for her fellow women in the vineyard in which she worked. Bijou is a tribute to her memory and we share her story on the back of every bottle sold. Our rosé is made from grapes sourced from handpicked bush vines, alike those that Sophie would've harvested herself many years ago. The grapes are sourced from low-yielding old vines on the sloping hillsides of various vineyards in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of southern France. The areas are made up of old volcanic soils composed of 70% schist, which helps create high-quality grapes with great structure and freshness. The grapes are hand-harvested, de-stemmed and gently crushed. Indigenous yeasts are used to ferment the wine for 15 to 18 days in temperature controlled stainless vats. Fermentation takes place at low temperatures of 14-16 ° to preserve the delicate fruit flavours. Each grape variety is harvested and vinified separately and then finally blended together to create a perfectly balanced wine. The self-supported framework provides shade without the use of inhibiting support poles in the back of the boat to interfere with boating activities such as fishing, boarding and docking. Versatile mounting options include surface-mount or fully integrated installations, along with arched roller designs that seamlessly extend shade as a natural extension of a boat. The SureShade ATF automated tele-frame shade utilizes a patented telescoping tubular framework to automatically extend or retract canvas at the touch of a button. The shade is electrically wired to a switch (typically at the helm) that initiates extension or retraction. Designed specifically for the marine environment, this electric power-driven shade system can be installed on any boat or yacht with sufficient overhead structure (such as a hardtop, arch or bridge). All of our ATF shades now feature our "Silent Glide" technology to operate with virtually no sound! Boats featuring our legacy ATF shade may also upgrade to our latest silent glide technology with the purchase of an upgrade kit. Wine of the Region: https://bijouwine.com/sophie-valrose-rose/ Art of the Region: Barges on the Seine (Bateaux sur la Seine), 1905-06, oil on canvas, Pushkin Museum, Moscow. Maurice de Vlaminck was born in Paris. His father was Flemish and taught violin and his mother came from Lorraine and taught piano. He began painting in his late teens and studied with a painter named Henri Rigalon. He painted during the day and earned his livelihood by giving violin lessons and performing with musical bands at night.
