#8 Report For Duty!
At 65, still reeling from divorce and the death of my mother, I kept a promise I had made to her on her deathbed: I moved in with my 95-year-old father and became his live-in caregiver. Dad was a proud Korean War veteran and retired 1st Lieutenant combat platoon leader—independent, demanding, and still very much the Sergeant. I loved him and wanted to care for him, but I was emotionally depleted and could barely manage my own life. Moving into his home did not feel like a new beginning. It felt like I was reporting for duty. This episode begins the story of the difficult years I spent caring for my father—years filled with duty, frustration, sacrifice, unexpected laughter, and a love that neither of us fully understood yet. Follow the Starting Over series as I tell the true story of losing my marriage, rebuilding my life, and discovering that sometimes the road forward takes you somewhere you never wanted to go. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4x5ZeAGz8Z_k0TzQO6fYIQ/join #Caregiving #ElderCare #AgingParents #FamilyCaregiver #StartingOver #LifeAfter60 #FatherAndSon #VeteranCare #SeniorCare #SailingNervous
