2026 JWC Day 2 - Quick Recap

Day 2 in Medemblik saw the 49er fleet take to the water first, with yellow and blue groups racing from 11:00 in breeze that eased slightly from yesterday. All four fleets completed their three races again, and a clear theme emerged: three of the four leaderboards are now topped by two teams from the same national squad. Italy's Lorenzo Pezzilli and Tobia Torroni (ITA 75) lead the 49er fleet after finishing top three in all six races so far, chased by two German crews, Simon Heindl and Conrad Jacobs (GER 21) in second and defending champions Kjell Haschen and Iven Fromm (GER 182) in third after a big comeback. Poland's Klara Sobczak and Magdalena Skórnóg lead 49erFX ahead of fellow Pole Ewa Lewandowska, with Japan's Ichihashi and Goto up to third. In FX Open, Switzerland's Rothacher and Strempfer hold onto the lead. And in Nacra 17, Italian training partners Federico Figlia di Granara and Caterina Sedmak and Arto Hirsch and Sofia Borgia sit 1 2, with Switzerland's Aschieri and Rossel third. Tomorrow is the final day of the 49er preliminary series before the fleet splits into gold and silver, with lighter air in the forecast that could shake up the order.
