I forgot it was Easter Monday..... In New Zealand, they take a holiday seriously and NOTHING was open. The boatyard was not even open and almost no one was working on their boat. Without safety equipment and supplies sanding the hull was not going to happen. So I decided to embrace the holiday and have a fun day with the kids! The core of "Family Circus" is Chris (Dad / Captain), Sayo (Mom / Admiral), Aya (First Officer / Deckhand) and Miya (Baby / Stainless Polisher). After many years in business in Vancouver we were tired of life inside the box and wanted to make a change, we just weren't exactly sure what would be next. In July of 2016, when Sayo was six months pregnant, we decided (somewhat at the last minute) to fly to New Caledonia for one last holiday before the baby was born. On Friday 14th September we headed to Manly Sailing Club where Turn the Tide on Plastic, Volvo Ocean Race sailor Bianca Cook was leading a beach clean up with Sustainable Coastlines. In just 15 minutes a huge pile of rubbish was collected from the beach, a true example of just how much junk is out there if you take a closer look. Well done to Manly Sailing Club on arranging the clean up! Now let's all do our part of help clean up our oceans and planet.
