She was built for Arthur Crisp, a Wall Street banker who lost the vessel in the Market Crash of 1929. Renamed Sea Gypsy, she became a well known schooner yacht during the 1930s, racing and cruising the waters of New England. During WWII, the War Department assigned the vessel to the U.S. Navy's Coastal Picket Patrol, a fleet of private yachts charged with patrolling the U.S. coastlines.
