We took Arabella to Boca Grande for a week to get some boat work done...but we had to spend some time adventuring, too. We paddle boarded over to Three Sisters Island, took Victoria out sailing (after repairing her transom), wandered around the "Old Florida" back roads, had lunch at the Pink Flamingo, and tried all the tasty treats! Steve began the journey as an amateur wooden boat builder crafting a 38' wooden sailboat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and now sailing the boat—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that traditional wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project continues beyond the boat shop, as Steve and crew travel and learn to cruise aboard the handmade wooden boat that they've built. Gaetano è nato il 7 luglio 1968 a Cala Gonone sulla costa orientale della Sardegna dove ha sempre vissuto; qui il rapporto con la natura è la vita stessa, e al mare Gaetano ha consacrato la sua esistenza, nell'appassionato incontro tra lavoro, sogno e avventura.Dove è nato Gaetano non esistono circoli velici e manca una tradizione di vela. La sua carriera in mare incomincia presto quando si imbarca come mozzo sui pescherecci, poi come comandante sul trasporto passeggeri di piccolo cabotaggio. A vent'anni acquista il Dovesesto un fatiscente veliero d'epoca di 23 metri col quale, una volta restaurato, si guadagnerà da vivere (un'innovativa esperienza imprenditoriale) facendo charter e sarà la scuola della sua vita. Autodidatta per forza di cose ha imparato la vela da solo, trasformando la sua passione in impegno concreto attraverso studio e determinazione imparando a comprendere il vento onnipresente nella sua isola. Poi le regate lungo l' Oceano, una conquista dopo l'altra. La sua vocazione è la navigazione in solitario, quella che gli è più congeniale per la quale sente di avere una predisposizione fisica e mentale. La sua ultima impresa è la partecipazione alla Transat 2009. Nel 2011 ha progettato "gironelmondo" e dal 2012 inizia l'attività con BET 1128 Saling Team. Partecipando alla Palermo Montecarlo dove vince nella sua classe, poi la Middle Sea Race dove conquista il secondo posto. Nel 2013 trasloco in oceano per la partecipazione a Les Sables-Horta- Les Sables e alla Transat Jacques Vabre

Buy a boat, they say. It’ll be fun, they say! 😂 Owning a boat sometimes feels like throwing your money into a hole in the ground but I wouldn’t wanna change this lifestyle ever! It’s true, you spend a lot and marine items are just automatically triple the price just because they’re marked “marine supplies”. 🤪🙈💸 But on the other hand you save a lot of money for not having to pay rent or for a car or other “luxury” items!
