Living on a sailboat, we come across the authorities far more often than you might expect! In the Mediterranean we experienced the Algerian and Croatian navy (Algerian was super stressful!!), and the Italian financial police, but Trinidad is the first time we've been stopped by the coast guard. It was late at night, around midnight, when we saw their blue flashing lights come at us as we motored through the First Bocas, returning to Trinidad after months sailing up and down the Caribbean island chain. The Anchor Hitch is a super secure knot which tightens on itself when load is applied. It is really simple to tie, all you need is two round turns. One over the top of the item you are securing your fender to and the second one on top of the first. The Anchor hitch will become really tight making it hard to undo after load has been applied, making it a great option if you want to lock your rope tight against a fixed object.
