We sail over calm seas to anchor at the town of Raha, Sulawesi in search of ancient caves. Here, hidden amongst the rain forest in the limestone hills of Muna Island, Liangkabori Caves hold a remarkable secret — vivid rock art created three and half to four thousand years ago. Scrambling through narrow into chambers deep underground, we discover ancient paintings, etched and painted in red ochre, depict human figures, animals, and mysterious geometric shapes. As archaeologists continue to study the site, the art reveals a deep cultural connection between past and present, with local traditions still echoing the symbols and stories found on the cave walls. For ocean travellers like us, Indonesia is certainly a nation of wonders.

Two new things today. First, a replacement for our much abused Makita drill which has given up. The grip on the chuck for changing drills was already worn to the point of being very hard to tighten or release, the motor has been struggling for a while too. So new, more powerful one with harder wearing metal parts. Plus the cutest little kettle for our Refleks stove. Now we don't need to use electricity (if we have the diesel stove on) to make tea/coffere or do the washing up :-) We are now living aboard our Rival 38 Centre Cockpit full-time while finishing a refit so we can launch ASAP. Quorning Boats has always been a staunch supporter of this German boat show – in fact, 5 years ago, it was here that the manufacturer’s previous new model, the Dragonfly 40, was unveiled. But back to the 36: This trimaran, which can still be folded thanks to its further optimized Swing Wing system, has taken two and a half years to develop. In terms of design, this all-new model is the first Dragonfly to feature three inverted bows - until now, the central hull has always retained a traditional bow shape. Unsurprisingly, the 36 is available in both Touring and Performance versions, the latter having a rig 2 meters (6½ feet) taller. What’s more unusual is that the profile is in carbon on both models. Below deck, the new interior design features double cabins forward and aft, a separate bathroom, a fully equipped galley and a spacious saloon. The standard finish is in ash, with elm as an option. By the time we visited, on day 3 of the boat show, the yard had already taken 15 orders. The Dragonfly 36 is looking like a best-seller...
