5 interesting insights about sailing myths: 1*Whistling Aboard* You absolutely cannot pucker your lips and *whistle* on deck; that's just begging the Sea Gods to hear the insolence and whip up a catastrophic, ship-smashing storm. It was a simple, pragmatic method of enforcing silence: if you weren't whistling for fun, you were whistling for the wind in the sails—a literal attempt to challenge the elements when the weather was too calm. *Bananas on Board* To carry a single, innocent-looking banana onto a fishing or trading vessel was to invite complete doom—from mysterious disappearances to a devastatingly empty net. Forget the tropical fruit curse; ripening bananas release ethylene gas that speeds up the spoilage of *all* other food, forcing crews to rush their voyage. The real threat was rotten food and starvation! *The Unlucky Redhead* Anyone with flaming crimson hair was a certified 'Jonah'—an immediate harbinger of bad luck whose very presence could sink the ship. The intense belief was so strong that if a sailor saw a redhead before boarding, they *had* to speak first to neutralize the terrible bad luck—a social anxiety nightmare on the docks. *Renaming a Vessel* You can never, under any circumstances, rename your beloved boat without a meticulous ceremony to trick the Sea God, Poseidon, who keeps a ledger of every ship. Poseidon's ledger is a clever fiction; the real danger was confusing official maritime records, insurance papers, and salvage contracts, thus creating administrative chaos and potential financial ruin. *Friday Sailings* Starting any voyage on a Friday was deemed an absolute guarantee of misfortune, so potent was the superstition that no true sailor would ever raise anchor on that day. The British Navy, in a legendary attempt to mock this superstition, built a vessel named *HMS Friday*, captained by a man named Friday, and sailed her out on a Friday—and she was never seen again. SV Odd@Sea is a 2012 Leopard 46, for sale by owner. It is our home as we are living aboard, she held us safely for much more than 3,000NM. She is well cared for and upgraded, turn-key, 4-cabin, 4-head catamaran, that is perfect for coastal or blue water sailing. We are currently located in the Bahamas, but will be sailing to the US at the end of the month. With the Starlink RV antenna and router, we have enjoyed high-speed internet connection. Built by Robertson and Caine, and designed by renowned architects Morrelli and Melvin, the Leopard 46 is a blue water cruising catamaran that combines spacious living accommodations, high quality fittings and great performance. Designed with a spacious cockpit and saloon layout that is great for entertaining guests. Inspired by the Leopard 62, the raised helm station is located in the hard top roof with open access to the cockpit and all controls lead aft, for excellent visibility and ease of manoeuvering, making this 46 catamaran a very manageable boat with a limited crew. The starboard and port hulls accommodate two spacious guest cabins each with en-suite head and separate shower. The signature access to the roomy cockpit and aft bathing platform connecting the two transoms, completes this exciting model. Do not miss your chance to own this turn key 46 Leopard Catamaran, a perfect combination of performance and comfort. Unfortunately we need to sell our beloved Odd@Sea due to some family issues that need our full attention. In addition, my first mate (wife), even when she loves sailing, she also realized not on full time basis, so we were thinking of eventually scaling down for now and in close future, living part time on the ground and part time at sea. Odd@Sea has given us our best memories yet, and we are really sad to let her go. https://www.catamaransite.com/catamarans-for-sale/leopard-46-4/
