We bring the boat to a stop by heaving to. This is where we tack the boat but don't touch the sheet, so the headsail lies 'aback'. Once we have the wind on the main driving us forward, and the wind on the headsail pushing us back, and with the helm turned towards the wind, the boat will come to a stop. andatura: (s.f.) [A]. (Andature) sailing point, sailing trim, speed Modo di navigare di una imbarcazione a vela in dipendenza della direzione del vento rispetto alla chiglia della imbarcazione. Si suddividono in "andature strette" cioè di bolina ed "andature larghe o portanti" cioè prendendo il vento dal traverso fino alla poppa. Si una anche come equivalente di "velocità" nelle imbarcazioni a motore (vedi tale termine). [B]. a. in poppa (Andature) running before the wind, downwind Dicesi quando l'imbarcazione a vela naviga con il vento che proviene da poppa, o con un'approsimazione fino a circa 20°-30° dalla poppa stessa. Si usa anche dire "andatura in fil di ruota". [C]. a. al lasco (Andature) broad reach, running free, running on the quarter Dicesi quando l'imbarcazione a vela naviga con il vento che proviene da una direzione che sta tra il traverso (90°) e i 150°-160° di angolo rispetto alla prua dell'imbarcazione, cioè tra le andature di "traverso" e di "poppa". Si dice anche "col vento largo". Di "gran lasco" (oppure al giardinetto) si naviga quando l'angolo del lasco è molto ampio, cioè con vento di direzione prossima alla poppa. [D]. a. al traverso (Andature) beam reach, running on a beam wind Dicesi quando l'imbarcazione a vela naviga con il vento che proviene da un angolo attorno ai 90° gradi dalla direzione della prua dell'imbarcazione, cioè da un angolo retto rispetto al movimento dell'imbarcazione stessa. [E]. a. di bolina (Andature) close-hauled, to sail close to the wind Dicesi quando l'imbarcazione a vela naviga con il vento che proviene da una direzione che forma con la prua il minor angolo possibile, normalmente attorno ai 40°-60° dalla direzione della prua stessa. L'angolo dipende dalle qualità dell'imbarcazione che viene definita "boliniera" se tale angolo è basso, cioè se riesce a risalire bene il vento. Si dice infatti anche "stringere il vento" per indicare la andatura con il minor angolo possibile rispetto alla direzione del vento. Per risalire (cioè avanzare contro) il vento è necessario "andare di bolina" zigzagando, cioè con ricevendo il vento alternativamente nei due diversi lati dell'imbarcazione, passando la prua al vento, eseguendo una "virata". [F]. a. di bolina larga (Andature) close reach Dicesi quando l'imbarcazione a vela naviga con il vento che proviene da una direzione che sta tra la "bolina" ed il traverso" e cioè approsimatamente tra i 40°-60° ed i 90° dalla direzione della prua. Nelle imbarcazioni a vela moderne è l'andatura che consente di sviluppare la maggior velocità, soprattutto in condizioni di vento leggero. anemometro: (s.m.) (Strumentazione) wind gauge, anemometer Strumento per misurare la velocità del vento, dotato di un sensore che capta il vento e traduce la forza esercitata in velocità secondo diverse unità di misura. Può essere elettronico (un sistema elettronico traduce gli impulsi del sensore) o meccanico (trasmissione meccanica del moto del sensore ad un ago indicatore). Le unità di misura sono varie, ma normalmente si misura in nodi (cioè miglia marine/ora). Gli anemometri spesso forniscono anche la direzione del vento. Nel caso di anemometri utilizzati a bordo di imbarcazioni in movimento si deve tener presente che si sta misurando velocità (e direzione) del "vento apparente". ansa: (s.f.)
