Prenderà il via domani, 8 gennaio 2022 alle ore 11.00 UTC/ora locale (12.00 ora italiana), l’8a edizione della RORC Transatlantic Race, organizzata dal Royal Ocean Racing Club in collaborazione con Yacht Club de France. Maserati Multi 70 e le altre 31 imbarcazioni iscritte alla regata partiranno in due flotte leggermente scaglionate (alle 11:00 UTC i multiscafi, alle 11:10 UTC i monoscafi) da Puerto Calero, Lanzarote, e percorreranno 2995 miglia superando le Canarie e navigando attraverso l’oceano Atlantico fino all’isola di Grenada, nei Caraibi orientali. Maserati Multi 70 solcherà l’oceano in assetto volante, sfidando in una gara altamente competitiva i tre multiscafi rivali, due dei quali armati di foil di ultima generazione: Argo con Brian Thompson (USA), e PowerPlay che vede a bordo i velisti inglesi Giles Scott (tattico di Ineos Team UK in Coppa America e vincitore di due ori olimpici nella classe Finn) e Miles Seddon (che con Phaedo3 nel 2015 ha stabilito il record su questa tratta). Terzo competitor del team italiano è il maxi trimarano di 80 piedi Ultim Emotion 2 di Antoine Rabaste (FRA). Comune obiettivo sarà infrangere il record di 5 giorni, 22 ore, 46 minuti e 03 secondi, stabilito dal MOD70 Phaedo 3 di Lloyd Thornburg nel 2015. “Prevediamo una regata bella e avvincente anche se la situazione meteo in questo momento appare complicata da una depressione piuttosto bassa che fa sparire l’Aliseo e quindi la rotta classica per i Caraibi si annuncia lenta e con poco vento. Forse la soluzione sarà andare a cercare venti più stabili attorno alla bassa e quindi fare una rotta nord malgrado ci siano alcuni passaggi difficili” spiega Giovanni Soldini. “La gara sarà molto combattuta con tre barche uguali - Maserati Multi 70, PowerPlay e Argo - e Ultim Emotion 2, più grande e molto pericoloso”. Maserati Multi 70 partecipa alla RORC Transatlantic Race per la terza volta dopo aver gareggiato nelle edizioni del 2016 e del 2018, quando ha tagliato per primo la linea del traguardo con un tempo di 6 giorni, 18 ore, 54 minuti e 3 secondi. [Stiamo benone, siamo felici di stare qui, sappiamo molto bene che vivere in barca porta con sé parecchi discomfort e richiede davvero molto impegno. Lo sappiamo bene, per questa ragione siamo venuti qui adesso, ora che siamo pieni di energie e privi di grandi responsabilità, quali potrebbero essere un mutuo o dei figli.] Fatta questa premessa indispensabile, posso dirvi a cuor leggero che oggi è stata una lunga giornata. Sostanzialmente, è iniziata 36h fa, quando siamo partiti da Torrevieja per raggiungere Malaga (200 miglia o giù di lì). In mezzo è successo di tutto, tranne una bella dormita. Su quello dobbiamo ancora lavorare. 🥲 qualche consiglio dai più esperti? Nel pomeriggio abbiamo provato un approccio in porto (30/35nodi di vento) sapendo bene che è una pessima idea entrare in porto in “acuto” ovvero con vento rafficato. Sapevamo anche che era in arrivo un temporale e i temporali portano con sé vento forte. E più forte di quello che già c’era poteva dire solo fare danni e farsi male. In altre parole, non potevamo restare in giro e ci serviva aiuto per ormeggiare. In un momento di forte attivazione abbiamo anche provato un ancoraggio di emergenza vicino all’ingresso del porto, ma le raffiche ci hanno letteralmente impedito di concludere l’operazione. Come per ogni storia, anche questo capitolo ha una sua fine, ed è l’aver ormeggiato con successo (e con una mano in più), aver fatto una doccia bollente ed esserci coricati nel letto, a ricaricare le pile per domani. ► The Fédération des Industries Nautiques (France’s Nautical Industries Federation), which brings together the majority of French manufacturers in the sector, has just released its figures for the 2022/2023 financial year and has indicated the trends for 2024 at a press conference held on a barge at the foot of the Eiffel Tower. The survey acknowledges there was a post-Covid boom period, with new yacht registrations showing a sharp decline of 23.1% compared to the 2021/2022 period. This drop mainly affects the dayboat motor market for boats under 7 m/23 feet (down 27%) as well as the monohull sailboat sector from 9 to 16 m/30 to 52 feet (down 28%), both of which are struggling to cope with the increasingly attractive multihull offer – this growing by 5%, buoyed by the dynamism of power multihulls. There is also a growing interest in river and inland waterway cruising - a sector where multihulls could gain a foothold. According to the FIN, these figures for the French market also reflect those for Europe and even for the world market as a whole. As for 2024, according to Jean-Paul Chapeleau, the vintage promises to be one of “Market readjustment and a return to normal”.
