Introducing the LMF 22 which was launched at the beginning of the summer for buoy and waterway maintenance operations in the lakes of Maine. Despite it's relatively small size, the boat routinely carries a cargo of 2500lbs consisting of buoys, anchors, and chain. The buoys and gear are worked via a davit at the side hull cutout. A bow thruster was also installed to help keep the boat on station. We've featured this before, but this is a better and quicker way of tying it. It's effectively 2 knots for the price of one. * Instead of a normal loop, make a Clove Hitch in the Bight on the standing end. Then pass the working end up through, round and back down as you normally would in a Bowline. ... Tighten the Bowline part first, and then the hitch. Voilà! A really strong Bowline variation. Remember, it's going to take you slightly longer to untie. As the name suggests, it's good in water, that's why it's a good knot for your tender on windier days. Part of our 2 week vacation in the waters of British Columbia - we made our way to Desolation Sound. The farthest north we ventured was to the Octopus Islands, anchoring there for a night. The trip in was beautiful passing through The Whole in the Wall passage at slack tide. The hike trailhead was a quick dinghy ride away to Waiatt Bay. The trail to Newton Lake took us about an hour to get up to the top with a few scrambles on the way up. Everything was well maintained and the DIY nature of the signs was picture perfect - they were a big help. The lake water was warm and clear. We got there in the late afternoon so the sun was hitting just right. This was the highlight of the trip for the kids - until we arrived at Prideaux Haven the next day!
