Feasting for climate protection: It might sound too good to be true, but it can actually work. In Germany, transportation accounts for almost as much carbon emission as the food industry. The question we now ask: Does “low in CO2” food taste as good? To find out, we equipped three brave (and hungry) colleagues with a bib and cutlery before sending them to our experimental kitchen where they were served sustainable dishes – or as we call it, Food from the Future. In our six-episode miniseries “Climate-friendly – but delicious?!” they tell us what tasted nice, and what they would actually cook at home. We anchored in the bay of Laganas and while we were anchoring, we suddenly heard a puff coming from the water. It turned out to be a sea turtle that swam at the back of the ship and came up for a moment. We were surprised, because we knew that this bay was famous for sea turtles, but we did not expect to see one right away. And it was impressive, because the sea turtle was at least 1 meter long and weighed 80kg, which means that she is certainly more than 50 years old. The sea turtles have become the symbol of Zakynthos, they are called Caretta caretta and can grow up to 1.20 meters and weigh 100 kg. They mainly eat jellyfish, shellfish and seaweed. The breeding season runs from May to August. Females come ashore at night to lay their eggs in holes, after which they cover them with sand. A nest can contain up to 100 eggs. After about 60 days the young turtles hatch. They navigate to the sea by following the moonlight. The caretta caretta is very threatened by pollution, fishing and tourism. We spent 3 days in the bay, saw a sea turtle behind our boat a few times every day, but often 8 tourist boats immediately came to see the turtle very close as it tried to swim to the beach.

Fare le notturne sarà anche faticoso, ma ti regala ogni santa volta uno spettacolo al quale assisti in prima fila. Un tripudio di colori e linee, la temperatura giusta. Un caffè solubile spazza via una parte di occhiaie, mentre sogniamo una bella dormita di 8h. Ma il lavoro non aspetta. 💻 Mattinata di lavorazioni che diventa pomeriggio di call. Ci sono dei progetti in procinto di partire, quindi queste settimane sono di FUOCO 🔥 Fortunatamente abbiamo un ufficio spazioso con un’ottima vista, quindi lo stretching per ossigenare i muscoli è alla nostra portata e il mare è piatto. Abbocca perfino una lampuga, ma proprio sotto barca, a un passo dall’essere portata entrohordo, si salama, forse per un mio errore, forse per il filo sottile, chi lo sa. Nel dubbio, stasera per cena würstel 😂 Atterriamo a Crotone quando ormai è buio e siamo costretti a evitare le piattaforme solo con o le segnalazioni luminose e cartografiche, perché l’inquinamento della città non ci fa distinguere una luce di terra da una in mare. Oggi ho riletto dei cap del libro e non vedo veramente l’ora che possiate leggerlo. Questa cosa mi terrorizza e mi rassicura nello stesso momento. Vi piacerebbe partecipare alla creazione del titolo?
