This week, with our engines finally fixed, we’re back on the water and continuing our sailing adventure around Sicily! ⛵️🇮🇹 This week, we leave the marina behind and sail along Sicily’s spectacular coastline, discovering crystal-clear water, beautiful anchorages and some of the most incredible scenery we’ve experienced in the Mediterranean. From the stunning beaches and lively streets of San Vito Lo Capo to Sicily’s rugged northern coast, we’re reminded exactly why we chose the liveaboard sailing life. But the biggest surprise comes in Termini Imerese... While heading back to Rúna, we spot a yacht sitting on the harbour wall that we instantly recognise. The 56-metre superyacht Bayesian, which sank off the coast of Sicily near Porticello during a violent storm in August 2024, tragically claiming seven lives. After being raised from almost 50 metres below the Mediterranean Sea, Bayesian was brought to Termini Imerese, where the investigation into the sinking continues. Seeing the Bayesian yacht up close was a sobering reminder of just how powerful and unpredictable the sea can be. But our problems aren’t over yet… An issue with one of our engines forces us into a marina, where we have to dock our catamaran using just one engine, something we’ve never done before! Now that we've cleared Tunisian customs, we find out just how easy it really is to reset our EU Temporary Admission clock and keep our boat VAT-free. After 18 months of sailing the Mediterranean, we were forced to leave Europe. In this episode, we set sail on a 125-nautical-mile, 24-hour offshore passage from Sardinia, Italy to Tunisia, crossing into Africa for the very first time aboard our liveaboard catamaran. This isn't just another sailing passage. Because our boat is under Temporary Admission (TA), we have to leave the European Union before our 18-month limit expires. If we don't, we could face a huge tax bill and fines. So we point the bow south and begin one of our biggest passages yet. What starts as a straightforward crossing quickly turns into a challenging adventure. We sail through fog, pitch-black skies with almost zero visibility, seasickness, changing winds, and huge commercial ships as we make our way across the Mediterranean. Finally, after almost 24 hours at sea, we arrive in Bizerte, Tunisia, where we have to clear customs, deal with the police, and officially check into Africa for the first time. Now we live, work remotely, and adventure full-time aboard Rúna, our 38ft catamaran, documenting the highs, lows, and everything in between. Since we moved aboard, we've sailed more than 4,000 nautical miles across the Mediterranean, discovering incredible anchorages, hidden coastal towns, and some of Europe's most spectacular scenery. In this episode, we begin our journey down the breathtaking northwest coast of Sardinia, carefully navigating a narrow, shallow channel before hoisting the sails for a beautiful light-wind passage towards Bosa. Along the way, we wander the historic streets of Alghero, hike beneath the towering limestone cliffs of Capo Caccia, and visit the spectacular Neptune's Grotto (Grotta di Nettuno), one of Sardinia's most famous natural wonders. *This week,* our sailing adventure takes us from *Corsica back to Northern Sardinia* as Ruth takes on a 45 nautical mile solo sail without Andrew's help as we cross the Mediterranean. From sailing in light winds under our Code 0, to discovering crystal-clear anchorages, swimming with thousands of fish, spotting our very first wild stingray, and dealing with a painful broken bone, this week has definitely been eventful! We also face provisioning issues, with an unexpected supermarket disaster leaving our fridge very empty 😂 Over the next few weeks we'll be sailing down the spectacular Sardinian coastline before making one of our biggest passage yet, an overnight crossing to Tunisia.
