Before sailing 3600 nautical miles from Indonesia to Mauritius, I’m testing all essential navigation and communication systems on board. Checking the Iridium GO! exec, Garmin GPSMAP and the chartplotter image on my iPad to make sure everything is ready for the long solo ocean passage ahead.

The rainy season in Indonesia was supposed to be over… but early May brought one more massive storm. Within minutes, rivers of water were flowing through the marina. Parts of the dock were damaged and the land alongside it started washing away into the sea.
