I recorded a short, personal update from the cabin today. Right now I'm anchored in Caudan Marina, Mauritius, and every day I pull plastic out of the water around the boat. It's not the first time — sailing through the islands, I've seen pollution again and again, on shores that should be untouched. It raises a question I keep coming back to: is this a governmental issue, something for policy and infrastructure to fix — or is it also on us, individually, to do something about it? 💙 Love my videos? Welcome to the remote and breathtaking Cocos Keeling Islands — one of the most unique places I have visited during my solo circumnavigation. After arriving at this beautiful coral atoll, I explore the islands both above and below the water. I snorkel with magnificent manta rays, an unforgettable encounter with these gentle giants in crystal-clear tropical waters. On Direction Island, I experience the simple pleasures of island life: taking a refreshing outdoor shower from the huge communal water tank while surrounded by one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen. I go on the dinghy with friends across the lagoon to Home Island, where I discover the fascinating Oceania Hotel and learn more about this remote island community. From there, I catch the ferry to West Island, where I find one of the most unusual golf courses in the world — a course that crosses the runway of the island’s airport! The Cocos Keeling Islands are a true hidden gem: remote, wild, and full of surprises. Join me as I explore this incredible stop on my solo sailing adventure around the world. 💙 Love my videos? I recorded a short, personal update from the cabin today. I'm reflecting on two questions that keep floating to the surface: 1. Who do I want to be? and 2. What do I want to do next? 💙 Love my videos? During my stop at the beautiful Cocos (Keeling) Islands, I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Gary. He invited me into the radio studio on West Island for an interview on The Doc and the Duchess Show. This is a local radio program from Cocos (Keeling) Islands. The show brings together conversations about health, wellbeing, community, and interesting stories from people connected to the islands and beyond. During this interview we talked about the mental and physical challenges of solo ocean sailing, how to stay resilient during long periods at sea, and what I've learned after thousands of miles alone on the world's oceans. I also shared a simple yet powerful tool for building mental fitness—one that anyone can use in daily life. Whether you're a sailor, an adventurer, or simply interested in personal growth, I hope you'll enjoy this inspiring conversation. 💙 Love my videos? The second half of the passage from Indonesia to Cocos (Keeling) Islands was another unforgettable chapter of my solo ocean sailing journey. Out in the Indian Ocean, far from land, things started to go wrong. The feeder of my mainsail track broke loose, making handling the sail more challenging. Then I lost the ability to receive emails, cutting me off from important communication. And when I finally arrived at Cocos Keeling, my Raymarine chartplotter and autopilot stopped working. This is the reality of long-distance solo sailing. It is not only about beautiful sunsets, empty oceans, and freedom — it is also about staying calm, solving problems, and trusting your experience when things don't go according to plan. In this episode, I share what happened during this challenging passage and how I dealt with unexpected failures while sailing alone across the Indian Ocean. 💙 Love my videos? C’est mon bateau” — written by Jo Lemaire. This song touches something deep in me. A boat is not just a vessel; it represents freedom, dreams, courage and the choice to follow your own path. When you choose a life at sea, many people have an opinion. Some say: “You cannot leave your family behind.” Others wonder if life on the ocean is really as beautiful as it looks. But what many people don’t see are the moments in between: the endless horizon, the silence, the stars, the sunrise, the connection with nature and the incredible feeling of being exactly where you are meant to be. Yes, it is challenging. Yes, it asks for courage. But it is also one of the most beautiful and fulfilling experiences of my life. Played and sung on ukulele aboard SY Loveworkx ⛵🎶
Leaving the Lombok Medana Bay Sailing Community for the Indian Ocean at the end of May 2026! The southeast trade winds are building. By July they're stronger, and by August they're at their peak. That's why I'm leaving Indonesia early, aiming to sail all the way to Mauritius. In this first episode I pass Christmas Island without stopping and enjoy a surprisingly calm and peaceful passage across the Indian Ocean. 💙 Love my videos? After an adventurous sail across Vanuatu, it's time to explore the beautiful island of Efate. This is in July 2025. I forgot to publish the footage at the time. In this video, I visit Akasup Cultural Village to experience traditional Ni-Vanuatu culture and learn about local customs and village life. Next, I discover the stunning natural beauty of Eden on the River, with its crystal-clear waters, lush rainforest surroundings and peaceful atmosphere. To finish the day, I relax at the beautiful Banana Bay Beach Club, enjoying the tropical coastline and island vibes that make Vanuatu such a special destination. Join me as I explore the culture, nature and beauty of Efate, one of the South Pacific's hidden gems. 💙 Love my videos? Leaving Tanna behind in July 2025, I set sail overnight toward Efate in Vanuatu. The forecast promised an interesting passage, and the night certainly delivered. Squall after squall rolled across the ocean, bringing shifting winds, rain and plenty of sail adjustments in the darkness. Solo sailing at night requires focus, patience and trust in both your boat and yourself. Between the squalls, the ocean revealed moments of beauty and calm under the stars. Every passage has its challenges, and this one was a reminder of how quickly conditions can change at sea. Join me for a real night offshore as I navigate through the squalls on this adventure from Tanna to Efate. 💙 Love my videos? After an unforgettable stay on the Cocos (Keeling) Islands, I have set sail for Mauritius. The Indian Ocean is already showing its power. Cross seas from different directions, waves ranging from 3 to 6 metres, and frequent squalls bringing squalls of 30 knots or more make for a challenging passage. This is not a gentle downwind sail. Every day demands attention, patience, and respect for the ocean. Yet amidst the chaos of wind and waves, there are also moments of beauty—sunrises, star-filled nights, and the deep sense of freedom that only life at sea can bring. Now it’s one day at a time, one wave at a time, across the vast Indian Ocean toward Mauritius. Sailing for 20 days
After an emotional farewell at Vuda Marina in Fiji, where friends and team of Vuda Marina sang me goodbye, I set sail once again across the Pacific. This is in July 2025. Footage that I forgot to publish. My destination: Tanna Island in Vanuatu, home to one of the world's most accessible active volcanoes. From heartfelt goodbyes to standing on the edge of a living volcano, this journey was filled with unforgettable moments, powerful nature, and the freedom of solo sailing. Join me aboard Loveworkx for another incredible adventure. 💙 Love my videos? After months of life on my sailboat, staying at The Oberoi in Lombok felt like arriving in a peaceful oasis. Located close to Medana Bay, it was the perfect place to rest, recharge, and enjoy the beauty of Lombok. The infinity pool overlooking the sea is breathtaking, especially during sunset. I deeply enjoyed the spa treatment, the incredible food, and the calm atmosphere throughout the resort. But what touched me most was the warmth of the team — so caring, personal, and welcoming. A beautiful reminder that true luxury is not only found in comfort, but also in genuine human connection. 💙 Love my videos? Today, after almost three years of sailing, I finally met fellow sailor Holly on Gecko in person — here in Lombok, where we're both preparing for the same route from Indonesia to South Africa. We'd been in contact online for a while. Same type of boat. Same dream. And sinds many months, the same location; Medana Bay Marina in Lombok. But the circumstances were heartbreaking. After being away for a year, she returned to find her boat with almost a meter of water inside. Batteries gone. Engine damaged. Tools ruined. Cushions soaked. Everything that represents months — years — of work, love, and life. The sailing community knows what lives inside these boats. It's not just gear. It's the dream. If you want to support Holly, encourage her, or simply let her know she's not alone — drop something via her instagram @boatlizard or find her on Patreon: patreon.com/windhippie She's going to need the community right now 💕
After cyclone season in Indonesia, I reactivated my Iridium GO exec and decided to do a full emergency test with the Garmin IERCC rescue center. When you sail solo across oceans, you don’t just hope your safety systems work… you test them before you need them. #IridiumGO #GarminIERCC #SoloSailing #OceanSafety #IndianOcean
