Since 2020, Iberian orcas, also known as killer whales, have been interacting with and attacking sailboats along the coasts of Portugal and Spain, often targeting the rudder. More than 500 encounters have been reported, and several boats have even sunk after these orca interactions. In this episode, we are sailing straight through known orca territory on our journey from Sweden to the Mediterranean. While we are out at sea, the first orca attacks of the year start happening close to where we are sailing, and one of the boats belongs to our friends. 😳 With the orca attacks going on around us, we navigate these waters with caution, hoping to make it safely to the Mediterranean without an encounter with these powerful animals. ❤️ If you’d like to become a Patreon and support our work, and get exclusive content plus early access to our videos, click here 👉https://www.patreon.com/c/sailanddoxie/membership We are so thankful for every single one of you 🫶 📍 Route: Nazaré (Portugal) to Cascais (Portugal) 🧑‍✈️ Crew: Erik, Linn & Nora the dachshund If you're new to our channel, welcome! 🩵 We’re Linn and Erik, a Swedish couple in our late 20s who quit our jobs, rented out our apartment, and set off to sail from Stockholm to the Mediterranean together with our sausage dog. We have sailed into our eighth country, Portugal, on our journey from Sweden to the Mediterranean!🇵🇹 This video begins in the beautiful city of Porto, where we finally experience the sunny early spring days we’ve been longing for after our first month of storms and rain. We explore Porto’s charming streets, taste traditional Portuguese food and drinks, and soak up the atmosphere of one of Europe’s most beautiful coastal cities.☀️ Back on the boat, we install our new cockpit enclosure from Kapell & Annat and enjoy it for the very first time this season, a true game changer for liveaboard sailing life. We’re also deep in preparations for the long sailing season ahead as we continue south toward the Mediterranean.⛵️ We then set off on our longest passage at sea so far, just the three of us, heading toward Nazaré, 100 nautical miles down the Atlantic coast of Portugal. As we sail, we hope to avoid orcas, fishing nets, and heavy Atlantic swell. The wind is light, and although we enjoy a calm wing-on-wing sail, the passage takes longer than expected. We arrive early the following morning. How incredible is that!? 🇵🇹 After one of the stormiest winters Spain and Portugal have seen in years, we’re finally back on the move south again. But the Atlantic still keeps us on our toes with rolling swell, tricky conditions, and even a close call with fishing nets. We left Sweden in June last year to start our liveaboard sailing adventure through Europe with our dog Nora, our four-legged skipper. From the Baltic Sea through the English Channel, across the Bay of Biscay, and now sailing south along the Portuguese coast, we’re slowly making our way toward the Mediterranean. ⛵️ Portugal is a completely new country for us, and it feels incredible to finally have sunshine and spring weather again after months of storms and endless rain.☀️ 📍 Route: Muros (Spain) to Porto (Portugal) 🧑‍✈️ Crew: Erik, Linn & Nora the dachshund If you're new to our channel, welcome! 🩵 We’re Linn and Erik, a Swedish couple in our late 20s who quit our jobs, rented out our apartment, and set off to sail from Stockholm to the Mediterranean together with our sausage dog. After three months tied up in A Coruña, we return to our boat full of hope, ready to start the sailing season early. ⛵️ But northern Spain has been hit by extreme weather, with relentless storms, strong winds, and very small weather windows. With just one day to move, we take our chance and leave the harbour. It quickly turns into a sail with headwinds and heavy rolling. When we finally reach Camariñas, the weather catches us once again, no clear forecast, just more storms on the horizon. ⛈️ So we make a different call. We leave our boat behind and switch to van life for a few days. Not because we’re giving up on sailing, but because we’d rather explore beautiful Galicia than sit and stare at weather forecasts. In this episode, we share life between storms both at sea and on land, as we adapt our plans and keep the adventure going. ⛰️🚐 📍 Route: A Coruña (Spain) to Camariñas (Spain) 🧑‍✈️ Crew: Erik, Linn & Nora the dachshund If you're new to our channel, welcome! 🩵 We’re Linn and Erik, a Swedish couple in our late 20s who quit our jobs, rented out our apartment, and set off to sail from Stockholm to the Mediterranean together with our sausage dog. We’re back on our sailboat in Spain and the stormy reality of winter boat life hits immediately 🌧️⛵️ After a winter break in Sweden, we fly back to our sailboat in A Coruña to continue our sailing journey toward the Mediterranean. Instead of sunshine and smooth sailing, we’re met by heavy rain, strong winds, and cold weather that keep us stuck in the marina. Just before returning to the boat, we went live on national television in Sweden, talking about our lifestyle change, quitting our jobs, and choosing life at sea. 📺 This video marks the beginning of Season 2 of Sail & Doxie, where we continue our sailing adventure through Europe, from the Atlantic into the Mediterranean - sharing the highs, lows, and everything in between. After three months of sailing from our hometown, Stockholm, down the Atlantic coast of Europe, it’s finally time for our longest, and most feared, passage yet - crossing the Bay of Biscay. ⛵️ The Bay of Biscay has a reputation for being unpredictable, with strong Atlantic swells and sudden weather changes. It’s a crossing that truly demands respect. 🌊 We welcome aboard our crew for this passage, Erik’s parents aka https://www.youtube.com/@bushpoint and set sail from Camaret-sur-Mer, France, heading more than 52 hours across the sea to reach Gijón, Spain, with our brave little sausage dog Nora onboard. 🐾 It’s our longest passage so far, and between fever, cold nights, and little sleep, this crossing definitely tests both us and our boat. But with calm weather, dolphins joining our sail, and a long-awaited boat renaming at the end, it turns into a journey we’ll never forget. 💛 📍 Route: Camaret-sur-Mer (France) to Gijón (Spain) ⛵ Distance sailed: 1967 Nautical Miles 🧑‍✈️ Crew: Erik, Linn & Nora the dachshund If you're new to our channel, welcome! 🩵 We’re Linn and Erik, a Swedish couple in our late 20s who quit our jobs, rented out our apartment, and set off to sail from Stockholm to the Mediterranean together with our sausage dog. After three months of sailing from Stockholm, through the Baltic Sea and down the English Channel we have now reached southern France. 🇫🇷 In this episode, we fix our broken engine that left us being towed into the marina in the middle of the night in our last video. But before getting back out on the ocean, we take a little break from boat life and head off on a long road trip to Girona, Spain, to celebrate a big family milestone with Erik’s family. 🚘 Back onboard, we finally leave Lézardrieux and start heading south, making plans to cross the Bay of Biscay. It’s late in the season and autumn has reached France, bringing colder winds and fewer good weather windows. With a small window of opportunity ahead, we decide to go for it, and recruit two new crew members onboard for the upcoming crossing. ⛵️ 📍 Route: Lézardrieux (France) to Camaret-sur-Mer (France) ⛵ Distance sailed: 1677 Nautical Miles 🧑‍✈️ Crew: Erik, Linn & Nora the dachshund If you're new to our channel, welcome! 🩵 We’re Linn and Erik, a Swedish couple in our late 20s who quit our jobs, rented out our apartment, and set off to sail from Stockholm to the Mediterranean together with our sausage dog. We experienced one of our most terrifying sails, the night our engine failed and left us powerless in strong currents and bad weather while sailing past the Channel Islands, heading for Lézardrieux. Far from land and in the dark, we made a PAN-PAN call on the VHF to the French sea rescue. With six knots of current against us and no engine, we couldn’t make it on our own and had to be towed into the marina. In this video, we sit down and share what happened that night and why our engine overheated so we couldn’t use it. We had just had the heat exchanger serviced and replaced when we bought the boat in Flensburg, Germany, only a month earlier. But somehow, they put back a damaged one with a hole in it, which caused all our cooling water to leak out... We also learned a lot from this experience, especially not to head out with such a small margin like we did that day. Hopefully, someone else can learn something from it too.💙 📍 Route: Barneville-De-Carteret (France) to Lézardrieux (France) ⛵ Distance sailed: 1556 Nautical Miles 🧑‍✈️ Crew: Erik, Linn & Nora the dachshund If you’re new to our channel, welcome! 🩵 We’re Linn and Erik, a Swedish couple in our late 20s who quit our jobs, rented out our apartment, and set off to sail from Stockholm to the Mediterranean together with our sausage dog.
