We are sailing on a tight budget after our huge refit earlier this year and so when it came to transforming the cockpit of our Leopard catamaran, we had to get a little creative. I wanted to replace all our cushions and Iain wanted to transform our table, but we don't have the thousands of dollars it would take to do these jobs properly. Instead, we find a way to make it work on a budget of almost zero and figure the rest out along the way. Some days are special - and this is one we will remember for a long time! We are celebrating reaching such an important milestone in my health journey, as I get back to who I was before my relapse earlier this year. We expected 2026 to be full of hard work and adventure, sailing to new countries and adventuring throughout the South Pacific, but instead I had to face up to months of not being able to walk, hardly being able to string a sentence together, losing my short term memory and really not being able to live life at all. But we struggled on and did our best with what we had in front of us at the time, and now, 9 months later, we find ourselves sailing to one of the most unique islands in Fiji, and hiking to the top of the hill for an incredible view. There's all the usual things - some sailing, some silliness, beautiful scenery and a Brioni hike to top it off. But most of all, it's a celebration of how far we have come and what we have in front of us. We've been sailing full-time on our Leopard catamaran for more than 6 years but to us, this lifestyle has always been about more than just sunsets and rainbows. We wanted to make a difference and help support the communities that we visit as we sail around the world and here in Fiji, we've partnered up with Sea Mercy Fiji to do exactly that. When islands get hit by cyclones, Sea Mercy Fiji are first on the scene to support the villages that have been impacted, but during the rest of the year, they send medical supplies to the most remote hospitals in the Lau group - the most remote islands in the country. After living onboard full time for the last 6 years, we are making this critical upgrade to our off grid Bluewater cruising catamaran - we are upgrading our watermaker so that we can survive in remote places for longer, knowing we are self sufficient and have a reliable system to keep us alive. We have been sailing our Leopard catamaran for six years, crossing oceans and really putting down the miles on our boat. We spent a long time choosing this model and there are a number of reasons why we are super happy with our choice, but after 6 years of hard sailing, and a recent rough ocean passage from New Zealand to Fiji, we had a major failure while we were offshore. We were forced to drop anchor at a submerged reef so that we could temporarily make our boat safe to continue sailing a further 500 miles to reach land where we could begin the repairs. In this video, we tackle our first bot job since arriving in Fiji, and we're just hoping that the damage isn't too severe - with this structural failure we could lost thousands of dollars in broken or lost items, before we even began the repairs themselves. We are halfway through our sailing passage from New Zealand to Fiji, but we're facing a big problem. We anchored in a submerged atoll called Minerva Reef, because the metal structure that holds our dinghy in place broke in the huge waves that we saw last week. Before we can leave this lagoon and set sail for Fiji, 500 miles away, we need to figure out how to make Indioko safe enough for the open ocean. There is no one nearby who can help us so we just have to figure this one out ourselves, and as soon as we can get moving, we'll have the final leg of our journey to reach Fiji. We've been working non stop in New Zealand for the last few months as we refit our catamaran and get Indioko ready to head back into the tropics and off grid again. This was not the video we expected to make this week. After spending almost three months in the boatyard in New Zealand, we were finally excited to get back in the water and start exploring the Bay of Islands before our departure...but Indioko had other plans and we had to turn around and make an emergency run straight back to the boatyard instead. We were so disappointed to realise that we were taking on water...not from our thru hulls this time, but a leaking rudder seal. There was no other option - we had to haul out again and get these things replaced...but of course things didn't go to plan and we found ourselves getting stuck on the hard for longer than we hoped. Ever since we bought our boat, there has ben one major problem...and it nearly caused a disaster when we hit a storm in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. We've been battling this design flaw for the last 6 years but today we are going to put things right and fix this, once and for all. We've just completed a huge refit in a boatyard in New Zealand but although we're back in the water now, the boat projects don't stop. We tried to fly our drone around a remote island in New Zealand to get some awesome aerial shots of our boat in the anchorage but a battery failure meant it crash landed in the sea, only a short distance from our sailboat. It's too cold to swim here at this time of year but we just got an ROV from Chasing so we attached the grabber arm and sent it down after the drone to try and find it on the sea bed, almost 100 feet below us. It's time to take our catamaran out for a seal trial after three months of hard work in the boatyard. We have just completed a massive refit, upgrading or repairing almost every system onboard but now that we're back in the water again, we need to test everything out and make sure it all works as it should. We are leaving Whangarei and sailing up to Poor Knights, a marine reserve with a difficult anchorage. We'll be testing our Gori propellers, our new fuel tanks, our thru hulls and cutlass bearings, as well as our anchor and chain when we get there. This is one of the toughest videos we've made in a long time - at the end of our 3-month catamaran refit, we were so ready to get back in the water but when we launched our boat last week, we discovered that one of the thru hulls we had replaced was leaking. It took a huge effort to lift the boat out of the water again and fix it, but we weren't prepared for what happened when we launched the second time. It's an emotionally charged week, with a lot going on, but we're so glad you're here to live it alongside us. This is the final day of our catamaran refit - we have been in the boatyard for almost three months, replacing and upgrading almost every system on our boat. We have upgraded our anchor and chain, our windlass, our propellers and our cutlass bearings, as well as our solar and lithium bank, and the incredible paint job that we revealed last week! But now we are preparing to get back in the water and there are a few last minute jobs we need to complete before we can splash our hulls. Then the real test comes as we see if our new thru hulls are fully sealed or if any of them will leak. Nervous! We are now in Week 8 of our refit in the boatyard and we're halfway through a complete paint job of our 47 foot hulls. Last week we shared this secret project that we've been working on in the background, and now we're getting really stuck into all the preparations that come before adding paint. We have to remove our bootstripe and the pinstripes before sanding the whole boat and repairing any damage with fairing compound and eventually we'll add some primer. We are painting our boat! Indioko has worked for more than 20 years in the harsh conditions of the tropics and her gelcoat is almost worn away entirely so it's definitely time we took care of her and gave her a new lease of life. We are so grateful to Alexseal for supporting our adventure and we can't wait to get started on this huge job. Soon we won't recognise her! At the same time as repairing some damage on the hulls, we also have some touch ups to do to the diamond non skid pattern on our sugar scoops and we think we might have found a cost effective way to make our own mold that we can use to patch up the damaged spots.
