Join us as we begin the process of assembling this Yanmar 4JHBE Marine Diesel engine! This engine is in the shop for a refresh with new piston rings, bearings and other needed items so it can continue it's journey for many years to come! Jason, the engine's owner has joined me today in the shop to help get things started and we have made good progress!

The saga with the junkyard engine continues! Before spending any big bucks on this engine, I'm really hoping to see and hear it run, will she let me do that? Or push the limits like she knows how to do? In this video, I'm aiming to not spend any money on new parts in hopes I can come up with a plan for my customer. We shall see if I am successful or not!

My client has purchased an untested engine out of a local scrapyard to repower his boat with....let's dive in and see what we can do to get this engine running! We don't know much history and we have never seen it run, hopefully it'll be worth the effort of bringing it home!

A last minute decision on the customer end has put me on a time crunch to get this little Westerbeke genset out of my shop and back to the boatyard where it can be reinstalled in their sailboat for cruising season. This thing has sat in my shop for two years and the customers were convinced they would sell it, however they have changed their minds and now it needs to be ready for the boatyard at the last minute so I am scrambling to get the last few things done and ready for them! Today I will replace the exhaust elbow (desperately in need of replacement), and the heat exchanger (also in bad shape) and I will take you along for the ride as I reassemble things!

Engine blow-by is a serious issue, but hard to measure out in the field. I have partnered with J-tec Flow Meters to help with field testing their new portable prototype blow-by test kit! In the recreational marine diesel world, blow-by issues with engines is a real common struggle, and having a way to collect actual data will help alot with gauging the health of an engine. Before we set off to try out the kit though, we need to make an adaptor for the engine we will be testing - so follow along as I machine a temporary adaptor out of whatever spare parts I had laying around at the shop!
